The faction's 3 commanders: airborne, infantry, and armor unlock special units and abilities as the game goes on. The United States relies on versatile riflemen to keep an aggressive pace for the entire game. The game has two factions, the United States and German Wehrmacht. Much of the game's replayability is from the multiplayer. The missions alternate which company is controlled. Although cliche, the story has good pacing and gameplay. The single player also features cinematics that follow each company to tell the story of the Liberation of France. The single player is focused on the United States perspective and has the player control the US infantry, airborne, and armor companies in missions that vary from assault, defense, and special operations. The game features single player and multiplayer game modes. The video game is set in World War 2's Western Front, pitting the United States against the German Wehrmacht. Company of Heroes is a Real-Time Strategy game by Relic Entertainment.
